Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially, presenting an account of the changes between 1920 and today, but with limited and underdeveloped detail. While the student attempts to highlight some changes, such as the addition of a café, children's play area, and an underground car park, the information is disjointed and fails to provide a clear, well-organised overview of the main trends. Several features are described in a fragmented manner, and the comparisons between the two time periods lack clarity and precision. To move to a higher band, the response needs to select and report key features more systematically, providing a clearer overall summary of how the park has transformed over time.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The response lacks a clear overall progression, and the transitions between sentences and paragraphs feel abrupt and disconnected. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, consisting of isolated observations rather than logically linked ideas. Cohesive devices are minimal or misused, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships and comparisons between the 1920 park and the current layout. To improve, the student should ensure that ideas are sequenced logically, using appropriate cohesive markers to guide the reader smoothly through the spatial changes shown in the diagrams.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms such as 'park', 'entrance', and 'rose garden'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'now a days', 'entrace', and 'imfomation', which restrict precision. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic subject matter, the range is too limited to allow for flexibility or the effective use of less common lexical items. To achieve a higher band, the student must expand their range of vocabulary, incorporating more precise descriptive terms for spatial layouts and urban features, while also paying closer attention to spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple clauses and fragmented phrases. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with verb tenses ('when its is first open', 'thing was there'), missing articles ('in park children play area'), and incorrect prepositional usage. These persistent errors frequently cause strain and difficulty for the reader in interpreting the intended meaning. To progress, the student needs to develop better control over basic sentence construction, ensure accurate subject-verb agreement, and use a wider variety of grammatical structures with greater accuracy.
