Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response makes an attempt to compare the two maps of Grange Park from 1920 and today, noting several key changes such as the transformation of the fountain into a rose garden and the addition of a café and children's play area. However, the coverage of the visual data is incomplete and lacks a clear overview of the overall trends or major developments. Some details are described in a fragmented manner, leading to a partial and somewhat disjointed presentation of the information. To move to a higher band, the writer should provide a clear summary introduction or overview paragraph, select and group the most salient features more logically, and ensure all prominent additions and removals are reported comprehensively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text suffers from a lack of proper paragraphing, as nearly all sentences are clustered together without adequate separation of ideas. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or mechanically applied, relying heavily on basic expressions like 'then in 1920 and now' and 'now it is changed'. While there is a basic chronological or comparative progression attempted, the lack of a clear organizational structure makes the flow difficult to follow. To achieve a better band score, the writer needs to divide the essay into clear paragraphs—such as an introduction with an overview, followed by distinct body paragraphs detailing specific areas of the park—and employ a wider variety of cohesive markers to connect ideas smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic terms such as 'changed', 'removed', 'seats', and 'entrance'. There are noticeable word-choice and spelling errors, such as 'gardon' instead of 'garden', 'Fontain' instead of 'fountain', and 'accourding there culture nad' which impede smooth communication. The range of vocabulary is barely adequate to convey the basic map features. To improve lexical resource, the writer should incorporate a wider variety of synonyms and less common topographical vocabulary—such as 'replaced', 'converted', 'relocated', and 'demolished'—and pay much closer attention to accurate spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical structures employed are very simple and repetitive, with frequent omission of necessary articles ('The entrance is same', 'There was rose gardon', 'pond of water plants'). Sentences are mostly short and coordinate, and attempts at more complex structures or transitions tend to be faulty, such as 'Old one is accourding there culture nad now it is changed with change in time'. Frequent errors in prepositions, subject-verb agreement, and missing punctuation cause persistent difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, the writer must demonstrate better control over basic sentence patterns, use articles and prepositions accurately, and attempt a wider range of grammatically correct complex sentences.
