Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response makes an attempt to summarise the changes in Grange Park between 1920 and today, noting several key alterations such as the addition of the underground car park entrance, café, and water feature. However, the text falls significantly short of the 1920-word minimum, containing only 120 words, which prevents a fully developed discussion. While the main features are touched upon, some descriptions are inaccurate or confusing, such as claiming the amphitheatre was replaced by the stage of musicians (when it is actually the reverse) and stating that the seating area shifted into the middle. The overview attempts to capture general changes regarding layout and atmosphere, but the limited development and failure to meet the minimum length requirement restrict the score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response is organised into short paragraphs, beginning with an introduction, followed by a body paragraph detailing specific features, and a brief overview. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression and logical flow between sentences. Cohesive devices are used repetitively or inaccurately, such as the frequent reliance on 'Moreover' to start sentences, and referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to fully follow the spatial comparisons between 1920 and today. Paragraphing is attempted, but the overall structure feels disjointed and mechanical, reflecting characteristics of this band level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word forms that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'upgrates', 'nowsday', 'enterence', 'seprate', 'emerged' (likely meant 'merged'), 'know' (meant 'known'), and 'conjusted'. The writer attempts to use some task-specific vocabulary related to map features like 'glasshouse', 'fountain', and 'amphitheatre', but persistent spelling mistakes and imprecise lexical control restrict the range and accuracy of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences with frequent errors when attempting more complex formulations. There are noticeable grammatical mistakes throughout the text, such as tense and verb form errors ('The given plan shown us', 'which gets update', 'The main update happens show is', 'are emerged', 'seem like more conjusted'), as well as article and preposition inaccuracies ('shiffiting in the middle of park'). These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and indicate a lack of reliable control over basic and complex grammatical forms.
