Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially by attempting to summarise the main features of the park in 1920 and today. While it covers several changes such as the transformation of the fountain into a rose garden and the addition of the children's play area, the overview and selection of features are limited and unclear. For instance, the opening sentence 'The plans illustrate the maps of grange park when first time it opened in 1920 and todays how it looked' is awkward and vague, and the overview lacks a clear summary of the overall spatial transformation. Furthermore, some details are slightly inaccurate or under-developed, reflecting a partial and mechanical approach to reporting the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation in the response, with an introduction and body paragraphs attempting to contrast the past and present layouts. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is disrupted by repetitive phrasing and poor referencing. Cohesive devices are inadequate and sometimes inaccurate, such as using 'In the begnning of park' and 'in west side of park' without proper articles. Paragraphing is attempted, but the connections between sentences within paragraphs can be confusing, making the overall arrangement somewhat disjointed and difficult to follow smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that cause some difficulty for the reader. There are frequent spelling and word-choice inaccuracies, such as 'todays' instead of 'today' or 'modern day', 'begnning' instead of 'beginning', and awkward phrasing like 'take out some location' and 'covers with seats'. The range of vocabulary is restricted mostly to basic terms like 'park', 'seats', 'rose garden', and 'entrance', with unsuccessful attempts at less common words, leading to expressions that sound unnatural and impede precise communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic clauses with frequent errors in grammar, prepositions, and articles. Attempts at complex or past-tense narrative sentences are often faulty, as seen in errors such as 'there ware two rose garden' (plural agreement and spelling), 'the plans of park is change differently' (verb form and tense errors), and missing articles in phrases like 'in west side of park'. Punctuation and basic grammatical patterns show persistent flaws throughout the text, resulting in frequent errors that cause noticeable difficulty for the reader.
