The two provided plans illustrate a public park when it initially opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Overall, there are several develpments that have been occurred such as an amphitheatre instead of a stage for musicians in the west of the park and a fountain was built in the middle of the park, it has been replaced by a rose garden .

In the northeast of the park, a glasshouse was erected. However, it has been converted into a water feature. Additionally, the fountain which was located in the middle of the park, has been replaced by a rose garden, and four seats. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially, as it attempts to cover the main features of the maps comparing Grange Park in 1920 and today. However, there are significant inaccuracies and confusion regarding spatial locations. For example, the student states that a glasshouse in the northeast was converted into a water feature, whereas the original map shows the glasshouse in the southeast and a pond in the northeast. Additionally, the text contains repetitive statements, such as mentioning the replacement of the central fountain with a rose garden twice. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to ensure all reported features are factually accurate according to the visual data, avoid redundancy, and present a clearer overview of the overall changes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response shows some organization, but there is no clear overall progression, and the information is presented in a somewhat disjointed manner. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with a single introductory sentence followed by a clump of sentences that do not flow logically. Cohesive devices are minimal or inaccurate, leading to mechanical transitions, such as starting consecutive sentences with 'In the northeast' and 'Additionally'. Furthermore, referencing and logical linking are weak, as ideas jump between different areas of the park without a coherent spatial strategy. To improve, the student must group related information logically, use appropriate cohesive ties to guide the reader through the comparison, and structure the text into distinct, well-managed paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'amphitheatre', 'erected', and 'converted', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling, such as 'develpments' (developments), 'occurred' used with a passive structure, 'palce' (place), and 'pnd' (pond). These errors occasionally cause confusion or strain for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the student should expand their range of vocabulary related to spatial changes, practice precise word forms and collocations, and carefully proofread their work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic complex forms, many of which contain errors. There are frequent grammatical mistakes, including tense and voice confusion like 'have been occurred', missing articles, and preposition errors such as 'in the west of the park' instead of 'to the west'. The attempt to use complex structures often results in faulty grammar, for instance, 'the fountain which was located in the middle of the park, has been replaced by a rose garden, and four seats.' These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to exercise better control over verb tenses, passive voices, and punctuation while incorporating a wider variety of accurate complex sentence patterns.
