Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features of Grange Park in 1920 and today, while also providing relevant comparisons. An overview is present, highlighting the significant transformations the park has undergone. Key changes, such as the replacement of the fountain with a rose garden and the addition of the amphitheatre and cafe, are accurately identified. However, some areas are slightly under-developed or contain minor spatial inaccuracies, such as mislocating the historical stage relative to the fountain. To reach a higher band, the overview could be more comprehensive and precise regarding the overall spatial reorganisation of the park.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression from past to present layouts, moving logically through different areas of the park. Paragraphing is utilised adequately to separate the introduction, the 1920 layout, and the present-day layout. However, cohesion at the sentence level is sometimes mechanical or abrupt, with repetitive transitional phrases like 'On the other hand' and 'In the present day'. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional lapses in logical flow occur between sentences, such as sudden shifts in focus. To achieve a higher level, the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and flexible to create smoother transitions between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to map descriptions, such as 'redeveloped infrastructure', 'amphitheatre', and 'demolished'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, including spelling mistakes ('Granage', 'Westeren', 'Eestern', 'enterance', 'fearure', 'counstructed') and awkward word choices or collocations like 'music works' instead of 'musical performances'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a limited control over spelling and word formation. To improve, the writer needs to expand their range of precise descriptors and eliminate basic spelling inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in article usage ('the Granage park', 'in a park', 'to almost all garden'), prepositions ('on the Westeren side of park'), and subject-verb agreement or missing verbs ('park experienced', 'area become', 'fountain in the centre is replaced'). While these errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they are persistent throughout the text and place a strain on the reader. To move up, the student needs to demonstrate better control over basic grammatical structures, particularly articles, prepositions, and verb tense consistency.
