Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses the main parts of the task by attempting to outline the changes between 1920 and today, such as the removal of the fountain and the addition of the amphitheatre and café. However, some areas are under-developed or inaccurately described. For instance, the writer states that the east area faced multiple changes while the south faced minor ones, which overlooks significant transformations on the southern edge like the replacement of the glasshouse with a water feature and the underground car park entrance. Furthermore, a few directional details are flawed, such as placing the new water feature in the 'south west corner' instead of the south-east corner. To reach a higher level, the response would need to select and report all key features more accurately and provide a more balanced overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, overview, and body details. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The writer relies heavily on basic transitional markers like 'Additionally' and 'Moreover' to link sentences and paragraphs, which creates a repetitive feel rather than a smooth logical progression. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'the seats which were kept in the corners of Grange park, were put outside of rose garden in center', where the exact relocation is mechanically expressed. Improving logical flow and using a wider, more natural variety of cohesive devices without over-reliance on additive transitions would elevate this criterion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, successfully employing topic-specific terms like 'fountain', 'rose garden', 'amphitheatre', and 'glasshouse'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'maps shows' (agreement issue), 'in nowadays', and 'Stage of musicians is renwed as a Amphitheatre'. Words like 'vanished' and 'established' show an attempt to use less common vocabulary, but collocation and precision are inconsistent. Spelling and word-choice errors do not completely impede communication, keeping the response at this band, but striving for more precise academic phrasing and natural collocations is necessary for improvement.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'Overall, it can be clearly seen that the east area...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense usage, articles, and prepositions inside patterns. Examples include 'The given maps shows' (subject-verb agreement), 'park in nowadays', 'face multiple changes' instead of 'faced', 'outside of rose garden in center' (missing articles), and 'in park'. Control over punctuation and sentence structures is inconsistent, leading to errors that occasionally distract the reader. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate better accuracy across a wider variety of complex grammatical structures and ensure reliable control of articles and verb tenses.
