Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 87 words. Furthermore, it only partially addresses the task. While it attempts to highlight some changes between 1920 and today, such as the introduction of a water feature and underground parking, the information is very limited and cuts off mid-sentence. To reach a higher level, the response must meet the word count requirement and provide a fully developed overview and detailed comparison of all major features on both maps.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organization attempted with transitional phrases like 'Overall' and 'Looking into the details', and paragraphs are initiated. However, there is no clear overall progression because the text cuts off prematurely. Cohesive devices are used minimally and inaccurately in places, and referencing becomes unclear, particularly as the writing breaks off at the end. To improve cohesion and organization, the text needs a logical sequencing of ideas from start to finish with appropriate and well-managed cohesive links throughout a complete essay.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, with attempts at topic-related terms such as 'development', 'rose garden', and 'underground parking facility'. However, there are noticeable lexical and word choice errors, such as 'lesisure activity area for juvenile' instead of leisure area for children, and awkward phrasing like 'in placed of it'. These errors and the limited range of vocabulary restrict the score. To improve, the writer should use more precise and natural collocation suited to describing maps.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The range of grammatical structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors in basic grammar, verb forms, and articles. Examples include 'public park named Grange park from first opened 1920' (missing prepositions and articles), 'water feature and Underground parking facility has provided' (subject-verb agreement and passive voice errors), and 'in the north entrance gate is remains same'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. Incorporating a wider mix of accurate complex structures with proper tense control is necessary for advancement.
