Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the required minimum length of 150 words, as it contains only 125 words. Regarding content, the student attempts to describe Grange Park in 1920 and today, noting changes such as the removal of the fountain, the addition of a café, children's play area, and an amphitheatre. However, the response only partially addresses the task. The selection of features is incomplete and somewhat confused, mentioning details like a 'projector live' that are not supported by the visual data. The overall progression is limited, and the format is closer to informal notes rather than an academic report, presenting ideas in a minimally developed way.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The essay lacks a clear overall organization and proper paragraphing structure, as it is written as a single, poorly structured block of text interspersed with list-like numbers. Cohesive devices are used very mechanically or are inaccurate, such as 'furthermore' and 'i mentioned below', which fails to establish clear logical links between sentences and ideas. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial progression of the map comparisons. There is no clear progression from introduction to body and conclusion; instead, details are jumbled together without adequate grouping or sequencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, reflecting a limited range appropriate for this level. There are numerous spelling and word-form errors throughout the text, such as 'fisrt', 'differenceces', 'happen now a day', 'gargen', 'todays', and 'chnages'. While the writer attempts some less common or task-specific vocabulary like 'amphitheatre', 'cafe', and 'fountain', the inaccuracies in spelling, word choice, and collocation often strain the reader and impede clear communication of the visual data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, relying heavily on simple, fragmented, or poorly constructed sentence forms. There are frequent, persistent errors in sentence structure, verb tenses, punctuation, and articles, such as missing subjects and verbs ('in 1920 plan seats are all in corner', 'today park all seating arrangement in a middle'). Run-on sentences and a lack of proper punctuation further disrupt the flow. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control of basic grammatical structures.
