Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The diagram compares the initiall look of a park that was opened in 1920 and how it looks at the present.
Overall, park went through significant changes till now, the most important changes are addition of a children's play area, amphitheatre for concerts and a water feature. Several facilities were removed from the park such as, stage for musicians, pond for water plants and a glasshouse.
In 1920, park has two entrances one on the north and the other one from the south, there was also a fountain in the middle of the park. There was also a stage for musicians on the left of fountain, three rose gardens and multiple seating places. A pond for water plants on the north-east corner of the park and a glasshouse on the right side of the Eldon streen entrance.
At the present, stage for musicians has been replaced by amphitheatre for concerts and a square rose garden at the location of fountain with seats around it. Another significant change is the addition of a children play area that replaced pond. There is a water feature on the right side of the south entrance and a underground car park entrance. Besides that, a cafe is also build near children play area and glasshouse is removed from the park.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of Grange Park in both 1920 and at the present day. You provide a clear overview in the second paragraph, highlighting key additions such as the children's play area, amphitheatre, and water feature, as well as major removals like the glasshouse and pond. You make relevant comparisons between the two time periods, noting how features like the stage and fountain were replaced. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise or omit minor precise details in places, and some descriptions lack full extension, which keeps the response at this solid level rather than reaching a higher band. Overall, the selection of data is accurate and directly addresses the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your response demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The report is divided into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction, followed by an overview paragraph, a description of the park in 1920, and finally the current layout. You use cohesive devices adequately to connect your ideas, such as 'In 1920', 'At the present', and 'Besides that'. However, there is some minor mechanical use of cohesive ties, and referencing between sentences could occasionally be smoother. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, guiding the reader clearly through the spatial transformations of the park.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision when describing the map changes, using appropriate terms like 'amphitheatre', 'feature', 'replaced', and 'transformations'. You make successful attempts to use less common items, though there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'initiall' instead of 'initial' and 'streed' instead of 'street'. Some collocations are slightly unnatural, for example 'seating places' instead of 'seating areas'. Nonetheless, the lexical range is adequate to convey the message clearly, and spelling errors do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is somewhat inconsistent. While you attempt complex structures, frequent minor errors persist, particularly with articles ('the park went through', 'a underground car park'), prepositions ('on the left of fountain'), and subject-verb agreement ('park has two entrances'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but sentence boundaries occasionally lead to comma splices or run-on structures, such as in the overview paragraph. These frequent errors mean that while communication is rarely impeded, error-free sentences are not frequent enough to achieve a higher band.
