Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main changes between 1920 and the present day at Grange Park. An overall trend is provided at the beginning, and key features such as the replacement of the fountain with a rose garden and the addition of the amphitheatre and underground car park are correctly identified and compared. However, some areas remain slightly under-developed or lack full elaboration, particularly regarding the specific locations of some newly introduced amenities, preventing the response from reaching a higher level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing the spatial changes. Cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'subsequently', and 'besides this' are utilized to guide the reader through the comparisons, though referencing is occasionally mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the comparisons between the past and present layouts, but smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall flow and logical progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
An adequate range of vocabulary is deployed for the task, successfully incorporating functional terms such as 'layout', 'amenities', 'renovation', and various park features. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary, accompanied by occasional word choice and word form inaccuracies, such as 'are done' instead of 'have taken place', and 'is build' instead of 'was built'. Nevertheless, these lexical slips do not impede communication, and the vocabulary remains minimally sufficient for clear reporting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure when describing spatial relationships. However, there are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and passive constructions, such as 'seats was presented', 'that is replace', and 'there was nothing this kind of facility'. These errors require some effort from the reader to parse, placing the grammatical performance firmly within the expected parameters for this level.
