Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two time periods and mention several relevant changes, including the central fountain being replaced by a rose garden, the glasshouse site becoming a water feature, and the addition of a café and children’s play area. However, the overview is vague (“huge different” and “drastic change”) rather than summarising the main pattern of redevelopment. Some locations are also misreported: the amphitheatre is in the western area, not to the right of the central garden, and the café and play area are on the northern and north-eastern sides. The description of the 1920 layout is difficult to follow and omits important changes such as the underground car-park entrance. Select the main transformations and describe their positions accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic chronological structure: it describes the 1920 plan first and the present-day plan second, which gives the reader a starting point for comparison. However, progression within the paragraphs is unclear, and several ideas are joined in long, loosely connected strings, such as “in right hand side there is only rose garden and in left hand side it has changed drastically.” The repeated use of “in” and “and” does not clearly show how features relate spatially or how they have changed. The final paragraph repeats the general claim of “drastic change” rather than adding a useful summary. Grouping features by area and using clearer links such as “whereas,” “in contrast,” and “in the north-east” would improve the organisation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a park plan, including “fountain,” “rose garden,” “glasshouse,” “children’s play area,” and “water feature.” These terms help identify several features, but the range of descriptive language is limited and some choices are inaccurate or unclear. For example, “in right side” and “in outside of another parking” do not express location naturally, while “many this” makes the intended meaning difficult to understand. “Huge different” is also an unsuitable form for describing the scale of change. Use precise location phrases and verbs such as “occupies,” “lies,” and “was replaced by” to make comparisons clearer and more appropriate to an academic map report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to describe both plans using connected sentences, but control of sentence structure is inconsistent. Many clauses run together without clear punctuation, as in “in 1920, there was entrance and in right side there were there two different area seats and rose garden area.” Articles and plurals are often missing or incorrect (“there was entrance,” “two different area”), and verb forms and agreement are unreliable. Capitalisation and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, including “overall” after the opening sentence and the lower-case “in todays park.” These errors frequently make relationships between features hard to follow. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then combine them using accurate comparison structures such as “The fountain was replaced by a rose garden.”
