Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several important changes, including the central fountain becoming a rose garden with seats around it, the western stage area becoming an amphitheatre, and the former pond and glasshouse sites being redeveloped. You also note that the north-west rose garden remains. However, the account is only partial: it gives no clear overall summary of how the park has changed, and the café is described as beside the play area rather than as replacing the northern rose garden. The statement that the entrances are in the same places is also unclear because the new underground car-park entrance is not distinguished from the park entrances. The response is 135 words, below the required 150, which limits the detail provided. Add a concise overview and explain the main changes more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows a broadly understandable order, moving from the centre to the western and northern areas, then to the south-east. This helps the reader follow the comparisons, and words such as “However” and “also” attempt to connect ideas. Nevertheless, the organisation is not clearly developed into an overview followed by grouped details. Several changes are crowded into one paragraph, and links between locations are sometimes unclear—for example, “beside this Rose garden” does not clearly identify which garden is meant. The final sentence introduces the car-park entrance without a smooth connection to the preceding comparison. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the main details, and use precise location references to make the progression clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “Fountain,” “Rose garden,” “Stage for musicians,” “Amphitheatre,” and “Water feature,” so the reader can identify many of the features being compared. There are also attempts to describe change with words such as “replace” and “rebuild.” However, some choices are inaccurate or awkward, including “Pond for water pants,” “Cafe,” and “new added,” while “on the middle” and “left bottom side” are imprecise descriptions of location. These errors sometimes make the intended comparison less clear. Build a more reliable set of phrases for map descriptions, such as “in the centre,” “in the north-east corner,” “was replaced by,” and “was converted into,” and check spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to compare past and present using both simple clauses and longer sentences, and the main changes can generally be understood. However, grammatical errors are frequent, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty. For example, “which is opened in 1920” uses an incorrect tense and passive form; “In the plans has some noticeable changes” lacks a clear subject; and “Fountain replace by Rose garden” has an incorrect verb form and missing articles. The sentence “Glasshouse was located … now there is a Water feature is build” combines clauses without a correct structure. Practise past passive forms such as “was replaced by” and “was located,” alongside accurate present-tense descriptions, articles, and complete sentence patterns.
