The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The map diagram ilustrates the park that was first inaugurated for public in 1920 and that same park today.
Overall, the park has gone under signifiant changes over the period of time as it is more suited for public and children as well. There are now more seating capacity furthermore events can be held over there as well. New water sceneary has been added along with that parking issue has been resovled.
The tradtional park design consisted of entrance at both lower and upper middle section of map furthermore seats were situated at almost every corner of park. 2 rose garden at upper level with 1 at bottom between seats. There was an fountain at the middle with a stage for musicians next left to it. Pond for water plants as located at top right corner with a glasshouse opposite to it at bottom .
The new map contains the entrance the same at both upper and lower level. The rose garden is reduced to 2 with a new cafe replacing the old at top. The pond for water plants have been replaced by children play area at top right corner .Fountain has been converted to rose garden at the middle with a square of seats attached to it. Amphitheatre for concerts is build in place of stage for musicians at the right middle side. Water feature has been added in place of glasshouse at the bottom left along with that a new underground parking is developed just outside at the bottom left corner.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both the 1920 plan and the present-day layout, and your overview identifies substantial change, including new facilities and a shift towards recreation. Several comparisons are accurate: the central fountain becomes a rose garden, the pond is replaced by a play area, and the glasshouse gives way to a water feature. However, some details are misreported or unclear. The amphitheatre is in the western area, not the “right middle side,” and the water feature and underground-car-park entrance are at the south-east, not the bottom left. The number of rose gardens falls from three to two, but the north-west garden remains; the café replaces the northern garden east of the entrance. More precise coverage of these locations and a clearer account of the seating changes would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the original and current layouts. This helps the reader follow the comparison. You also use linking expressions such as “Overall,” “with,” and “in place of” to connect changes. However, some connections feel mechanical or make sentences difficult to follow, particularly the repeated use of “furthermore” and “along with that.” The long final paragraph combines several changes without clear grouping, while fragments such as “2 rose garden at upper level” interrupt the flow. Organise the details by area or by major change, and use clearer transitions and complete sentences to make the progression more consistently smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “entrance,” “rose garden,” “pond,” “glasshouse,” and “amphitheatre,” and phrases such as “replaced by” help express changes. However, the range and precision are limited by awkward or inaccurate choices: “seating capacity” does not describe the number or placement of seats, “water sceneary” is unclear, and “parking issue has been resovled” adds an unsupported interpretation. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “ilustrates,” “signifiant,” “tradtional,” and “resovled.” Choose standard terms for locations and facilities, and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary for position and change would help the reader understand the plan without having to infer your meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in articles, agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “an fountain” should be “a fountain,” “The pond … have been replaced” needs subject–verb agreement, and “Amphitheatre … is build” requires a correct passive form. Some descriptions are sentence fragments, such as “2 rose garden at upper level with 1 at bottom,” while the opening sentence has an unclear structure. Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, check singular and plural agreement, and practise accurate passive forms when describing what has been replaced or added. These corrections would make your comparisons easier to read.
