Student answer (Band 5.5)

So based on the development of Grange park today then from 1920, There has been a vast difference. Rather then the entrance on both sides and and a rose garden on left, everything has changed. In early years, there were 3 rose garden and now only one roase garden is left and other are developed into cafe and an empty space. There used to be pond for water plants, that is now converted into children's plaay area which contains some spinning machine or marie-ground alike games. There was a glasshouse too but now that is also converted into an water feaure where people can see water fountains. The 2 roase garden then were replaced were now placed at the centre of the park instead of a fountain. The rose garden is now big enough because it combined with 2. There are seats available around the rose garden where you can sit and relx and watch the roses. It is in Quadratic shape.

Earlier, there was a small stage for musicians, but now they have converted it into amphitheatre for concert, with a stage and no. of rows for seating.

The additional thing added was underground car parking which is required in today's time.

So everything changed but, the entrance from arnold avence and eldon street remained same

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main transformation from a formal park with a fountain, stage, pond and glasshouse to one with a central rose garden, concert amphitheatre, play area and café. You also note that the entrances on Arnold Avenue and Eldon Street remain, and your comparisons of the pond/play area and glasshouse/water feature are relevant. This covers the task well, with some detail beyond a basic summary. However, a few points are inaccurate or unclear: the central garden did not combine two former rose gardens, and the café replaced a northern rose garden rather than creating an “empty space.” The west-side amphitheatre also occupies the area of both the former stage and south-west garden. A more precise overview and clearer location comparisons would strengthen the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response includes a recognisable sequence of comparisons, moving from the gardens and pond to the glasshouse, central area, amphitheatre and entrances. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “but now” help signal change. However, the information is presented as one long paragraph, so the overview and supporting details are not clearly separated. Several transitions are repetitive or awkward, including “There was a glasshouse too but now” and “The 2 rose garden then were replaced were now placed.” The opening is also difficult to follow, and “So everything changed but” oversimplifies the comparison. Use a brief overview followed by grouped paragraphs, and connect each change with clear location-based references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing the plans, including “converted,” “amphitheatre,” “underground car parking” and “entrance.” These choices show an attempt to describe both facilities and changes. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spelling errors make parts less clear, such as “roase,” “plaay,” “feaure,” “relx” and “Quadratic shape.” “Empty space” is also inaccurate for the café’s location, while “spinning machine or marie-ground alike games” is speculative and too informal for a map summary. Prefer precise, neutral terms such as “children’s play area,” “rectangular” and “replaced by,” and avoid adding details that are not shown in the plans.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use past and present forms to compare the two plans, for example, “There used to be pond for water plants, that is now converted…” This shows an effort to express change over time, but control is inconsistent and errors sometimes make relationships difficult to understand. Examples include “There were 3 rose garden,” “The 2 rose garden then were replaced were now placed,” and “an water feature.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention, particularly in the opening and final sentence. Practise accurate plural forms, articles, and passive constructions—for example, “The pond was replaced by a children’s play area”—and use shorter, complete sentences when describing several changes.
