The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 4.0)

The picture demonstartes to show the graph between old era and anew era.

Because old people are less going to park becuase they don't go a park daily .On the other hand new generation can daily going to park.

The main difference is old picture shows the old people like for singing a music and the new generation can like to going the concerts and enjoying a music with our friends and siblings. But on the other hand, today's parks are very well destinated and people are more likeluy to go on a park with their children and playing or spend some time with those children.

Generally, becuase there is a main difference between todays or old generations likely thats why.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 2.5

The response is largely off-topic for this map-comparison task. It discusses how older and newer generations use parks, singing, concerts, and visiting with children, but these claims are not shown by the plans. It does not describe the main physical changes, such as the central fountain becoming a rose garden, the pond being replaced by a play area, or the glasshouse being replaced by a water feature. The opening also misidentifies the visuals as a “graph.” The response is 29 words below the required minimum, further limiting the detail it can provide. To improve, give a clear overview of the park’s transformation and support it with accurate comparisons of locations and facilities.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the opening introduces a comparison, the next paragraph discusses differences, and “Generally” signals a concluding statement. However, the ideas do not progress as a description of the plans, and the conclusion (“there is a main difference between todays or old generations”) repeats a broad idea rather than summarising the park changes. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “But on the other hand” are repeated and do not establish a clear contrast between specific features. Build a simple sequence: introduce both plans, summarise the main changes, then compare the northern, central, and western or southern areas.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a small set of relevant general words, including “park,” “concerts,” and “children,” but it lacks the precise vocabulary needed to report map features and changes. Phrases such as “the graph between old era and anew era” and “very well destinated” are unclear or unsuitable, while “like for singing a music” does not express the intended idea naturally. Spelling errors, including “demonstartes,” “becuase,” and “likeluy,” also reduce accuracy. Use map-specific terms such as “entrance,” “rose garden,” “pond,” “replaced,” and “located,” and choose natural collocations such as “attend concerts” or “play area.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts some longer sentences, for example, “The main difference is old picture shows…” and “today’s parks are very well destinated…,” but sentence structures are often incomplete or awkward, and control of verb forms and articles is weak. In “new generation can daily going to park,” the modal “can” should be followed by a base verb, and the sentence also needs an article before “park.” The opening, “The picture demonstartes to show,” uses an unnecessary infinitive construction. Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, particularly around the full stop before “On the other hand.” Aim first for accurate simple comparisons, then add controlled clauses using “while” or “whereas.”
