The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The diagrams delineate development of Grange park from 1920 to till date.
Overall, it is evident that significant amenities are constructed in the park compare to former year 1920. The only unchanged places are the Rose garden to the North-West of the Grange park and both the entrance from the Eldon Street and Arnold Avenue.
To be more precise, Seating facilities at the west just in front of the stage for musicians and adjacent to the rose garden, located at south west was demolished and new modern Amphitheatre is built for the concerts with increasing the capacity of the audience. Moreover, fountain is replaced by the the rose garden surrounded by seats in the central part of the park. Additionally, at North-East, rose garden and pond is superseeded by a cafe just beside to the entrance adjoining to the Arnold Avenue and Children's play area at the East-North corner in the park.Furthermore glasshouse is converted into beautiful water feature. Moving ahead, underground car parking amenity is also provided having entrance at the south-east part of the park.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response gives a clear overview of the main transformation, noting that the north-west rose garden and the two street entrances remain, while several facilities have changed. It also reports the central garden, western amphitheatre, café, play area, water feature and underground car-park entrance, so the key developments are well covered. Most locations are accurately compared with their former uses. However, the overview’s claim that “significant amenities are constructed” is vague, and the statement that the north-east rose garden was replaced by the café is inaccurate: the café occupies the northern edge east of the entrance, while the pond—not a rose garden—was in the north-east corner. More precise location comparisons and a sharper summary of the park’s overall redesign would strengthen an otherwise well-selected account.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a sequence of specific changes. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Additionally,” and “Furthermore” help signal additions, and the reader can generally follow the movement from the western and central areas to the north-east and south-east. However, the body is presented as one long paragraph, and the repeated additive transitions make the progression somewhat mechanical. Some references are also difficult to track, particularly “at North-East, rose garden and pond,” which combines features from different locations and makes the comparison unclear. Grouping changes by area or by old-to-new use, and separating the overview from a clearly organised body, would make the information flow more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
There is an adequate range of vocabulary for describing changes, including “replaced,” “converted,” “surrounded,” and “entrance,” and the writer attempts more formal terms such as “delineate” and “amenities.” These choices show some flexibility, but several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural: “significant amenities are constructed,” “with increasing the capacity,” and “beautiful water feature.” “Superseeded” is misspelled, while “to till date” and “modern Amphitheatre” are not well suited to this map description. Prefer precise, neutral language such as “facilities were added,” “providing more seating capacity,” and “a water feature was installed.” More accurate collocations and consistent spelling would make the description clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences with subordinate clauses, for example, “Moreover, fountain is replaced by the the rose garden surrounded by seats in the central part of the park.” However, errors occur across these structures and sometimes make relationships between features unclear. Examples include “from 1920 to till date,” “compared to former year 1920,” “the only unchanged places are,” and “with increasing the capacity,” which show problems with tense, articles, agreement, and clause construction. The long final body sentence also lacks consistent punctuation, and “park.Furthermore” needs a space after the full stop. Use past tense for the 1920 plan and present tense for today, and build shorter, complete sentences around each comparison to improve control.
