Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant changes, including the replacement of the central fountain with a rose garden, the addition of a café and children’s play area, and the underground car-park entrance. However, the response only partially summarises the plans: it has no clear overview of the park’s main transformation, and some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the amphitheatre is described as being on the “right side,” although it occupies the western area, and the southern-left area is called empty even though the plan shows seats there. The account also omits notable changes such as the north-west rose garden remaining and the glasshouse being replaced by a water feature. Grouping the main changes more accurately would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has some organisation: it moves from the northern entrance to the centre and then to Eldon Street, so readers can follow a rough tour of the park. However, the progression is not consistently clear, and the long paragraphs combine several locations and time comparisons. Repeated patterns such as “but today” and “the right side of the entrance” make the account sound mechanical, while references such as “the left side” can be difficult to interpret without a clear orientation. The opening and closing sentences do not provide a useful overview or conclusion. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and for grouped changes, and connect comparisons with clearer phrases such as “whereas” and “in contrast.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use several task-relevant terms, including “fountain,” “rose garden,” “pond for water plants,” and “amphitheatre for concerts,” which allow the reader to recognise many park features. However, the vocabulary range is limited and some wording is imprecise or repetitive. “Right side” and “left side” are less useful than compass directions for describing a plan, and “glass house” is written as two words rather than the usual “glasshouse.” The phrase “main informations” is also an inaccurate word form and collocation. Aim to use precise location language and a wider range of verbs for changes, such as “was replaced by,” “remained,” and “was converted into.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences rely on simple present-tense patterns, and attempts to link several ideas often produce faulty structures. For example, “The entrance is the same but the right side … have rose garden” has agreement and article errors, while “in 1920 have fountain” omits a suitable subject and verb. Tense is also inconsistent when comparing the two plans: use past forms for 1920 and present forms for today. The sentence beginning “And ELDON STREET entrance…” is difficult to follow because clauses are joined without clear grammatical structure. Practise complete sentences with a subject and verb, accurate articles and agreement, and controlled contrast clauses. These changes will make the comparisons easier to understand.
