Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both the 1920 plan and the present-day layout, and your overview identifies substantial change alongside some retained features. You also report several important conversions accurately, including the pond becoming a children’s play area and the glasshouse site becoming a water feature. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the stage was in the western area, not specifically the south-west, and the north-west rose garden remains today rather than being replaced. The central change is also described imprecisely: the fountain was replaced by a rose garden surrounded by seats, while the amphitheatre occupies the western area. To strengthen the response, distinguish these changes clearly and include the café and underground car-park entrance as separate present-day additions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the earlier and current layouts. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the comparison. Some linking and referencing, however, are unclear or mechanical. For example, “opposite it glasshouse” does not make the relationship between the pond and glasshouse easy to follow, and “other facilities were completely replaced by the amphitheatre” groups several changes together inaccurately. The final paragraph also moves rapidly from the central garden to the north-east and south-east features. Use clearer location-based sequencing, such as moving clockwise around each plan, and connect each old feature directly to its replacement.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing plans, including “layout,” “situated,” “replaced,” “converted,” and “retained.” These choices show an adequate range for the task, and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “Granage,” “undegone,” “adjact,” and “loctaed.” Some combinations are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “diversified incorporating entertainment amenities” and “rose garden with four seats.” Aim for accurate collocations and specific descriptions: for example, say that the central rose garden is “surrounded by seating,” and describe the amphitheatre as occupying the western area. Careful proofreading would make your vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the response is usually understandable. However, errors in articles, verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “from simple stage” (missing an article), “Ponds for plants was located” (plural subject with a singular verb), and “The rose garden was remain unchange” (incorrect verb construction). The sentence beginning “At present” also combines several changes without consistently controlled clauses. Use past simple for the 1920 plan and present simple for the current plan, and check subject–verb agreement and articles. Breaking long descriptions into shorter, complete sentences would improve accuracy while preserving variety.
