Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the park plans as a comparison and attempts an overview, mentioning entrances and the new amphitheatre. However, the overview is inaccurate: the park has two main street entrances in both plans, while the underground car-park entrance is an additional feature today, not a third park entrance. The claim that there are “little changes” also overlooks substantial redevelopment, including the central rose garden replacing the fountain and the café and play area replacing earlier features. Most key changes and locations are not reported, so the task is addressed only minimally. The response is also 109 words below the required minimum; the 12 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Describe the main changes and compare their locations to develop a complete summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the first sentence introduces the plans, and “Overall” signals a summary. This gives the reader a simple starting point, but the response ends after one short overview paragraph and does not progress through the main features in a logical sequence. The phrase “in the below plans” is unclear, and “as well” does not clearly connect the amphitheatre to the entrance comparison. To improve, use a brief introduction, a clear overview, and a further paragraph grouping changes by area—for example, the northern, central and southern parts of the park. Use linking phrases to show contrasts between 1920 and today.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a few relevant terms, including “public park,” “entrance” and “amphitheatre for concerts,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the vocabulary range is very limited for describing a map, and several spelling or word-form errors reduce accuracy: “illusrate,” “publice” and “Grance.” The phrase “little changes” is also imprecise and does not convey the scale of redevelopment shown. Build a more varied set of location and change expressions, such as “in the north-east corner,” “was replaced by,” and “remains unchanged.” Check spelling carefully, especially for words copied from the task or map, and choose precise terms for features and their positions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts simple statements and an overview sentence, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “their are little changes can be seen” combines an incorrect there-form with an awkward passive construction, while “the Grance Park have” and “now it have” show subject–verb agreement errors. The phrase “two entrance” also needs a plural noun, and “it have three entrance and having area” does not form a complete, parallel sentence. These errors make parts of the message difficult to follow, although the intended comparison can still be inferred. Practise accurate present and past forms, agreement, plurals and complete sentence patterns. A useful structure is: “The park had two entrances in 1920, and these remain today.”
