Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response selects the main changes and gives a clear overview: several original features were removed, while new visitor facilities were introduced. It also makes useful comparisons, such as the central fountain becoming a rose garden and the former musicians’ stage giving way to an amphitheatre. Most locations are reported accurately, including the café, play area and water feature. However, one important detail is misread: the rose garden that remains is in the north-west corner, not the south-western corner, and the café and play area are described together as being in the north-eastern section, although the café is north of the entrance and the play area is in the north-east corner. These inaccuracies and some broad location descriptions limit the precision of an otherwise well-covered summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response is organised effectively into an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the original and current layouts. This gives the reader a clear progression from the park’s earlier features to its present arrangement. Linking expressions such as “while,” “in addition,” and “furthermore” help connect comparisons and added details. The contrast between removed and newly introduced facilities is also easy to follow. At times, however, the long lists of features make the description feel more like an inventory than a carefully grouped account, and some transitions between locations are abrupt. Grouping changes by area—for example, the northern edge, centre and western side—would make the progression more controlled and reduce reliance on additive linkers.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
There is an adequate range of vocabulary for describing a map, including “situated,” “replaced,” “transformed,” “boundaries,” and “recreational facilities.” These choices help communicate the main changes, and the writer attempts some less common terms such as “amphitheatre.” However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “amphitjeatre,” “bounfaries,” “nouthwestern,” and “southeastern” written inconsistently. Some phrasing is also imprecise: “two of the original rose gardens have disappeared” does not clearly identify which garden remains, while “on the eastern side” is vague for the underground car park entrance. More accurate location vocabulary and careful proofreading would improve precision and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses such as “while the original fountain… have been removed” and participle phrases such as “leaving only the one…”. Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. The opening has subject–verb disagreement (“the map illustrate”) and an incorrect verb form (“change that have taken place”); the overview also has agreement problems in “facilities… have been introduced” only if the intended subject is singular, and “a cafe” needs an article form consistent with the noun. There are also missing articles in “transformed into amphitheatre” and inconsistent sentence punctuation and capitalisation. Review agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence for accuracy.
