Student answer (Band 5.5)
We have two plans of a public park named Grange park, comparison between when it opened and today how it looks like.
Firstly we can see from left side of park in 1920 there was just a simple stage for musicians from two sides rose garden but today's plan they have developed it with amphitheatre for concerts and also remove rose garden from a side. And from right side they removed rose garden and a pond for water plants and they built a Cafe and children's play area there and there was Glass house in right side they remove and create a Water feature.
Another big change is in Centre, Back then in 1920 there was a fountain and today's plan they built A rose garden and surrounded by seating arrangements from all sides of the garden the seats that removed from sides of the park are now in centre of park, there was permanent thing was park entrance it is as it was in 1920

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important changes, including the replacement of the central fountain with a rose garden and the conversion of the western stage area into an amphitheatre. You also note the café, play area and water feature. However, the account is selective and some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate: the north-west rose garden remains, rather than being removed, and the seats around the new central garden are not described as having been moved from the park’s edges. The overview is also limited; it would be clearer to state that the park retains its entrances and street boundaries while its facilities and layout have been substantially modernised. Include the glasshouse’s former location and the underground car-park entrance for a fuller summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence, moving from changes on the western and eastern sides to the centre, and phrases such as “Back then” and “today’s plan” help signal the comparison. However, the organisation is not consistently clear: the opening sentence is difficult to follow, and the long second paragraph combines several locations and changes without clear breaks. Some references are ambiguous, particularly “from two sides rose garden” and “the seats that removed from sides.” Use separate paragraphs for an overview and for grouped changes, and connect each feature explicitly to its former or current position. More precise transitions such as “In the north-east” and “By contrast, in the centre” would make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “fountain,” “rose garden,” “amphitheatre,” “pond for water plants” and “water feature,” so the reader can identify many of the facilities being compared. However, the range of change language is limited, with repeated use of “there was,” “remove” and “built.” Several choices are imprecise or unnatural, such as “from two sides rose garden,” “seating arrangements” and “permanent thing was park entrance.” Capitalisation is also inconsistent for common nouns such as “Cafe,” “Glass house” and “Water feature.” Aim for accurate location phrases and a wider set of map-reporting verbs, such as “remained,” “was replaced by,” “was relocated” and “was converted into.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to compare past and present using past and present forms, and there are some understandable simple clauses, for example, “there was a fountain.” However, sentence structures are limited, and errors recur in longer sentences, sometimes making relationships between features difficult to follow. Examples include “comparison between when it opened and today how it looks like,” “they remove rose garden,” and “the seats that removed from sides.” These need clearer clause structure and accurate verb forms, such as “the rose garden was removed” or “the seats that were removed.” Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention: “in Centre” and “Back then in 1920” are not punctuated or formed consistently. Practise controlled past-versus-present comparisons and divide long sentences into complete clauses.
