Student answer (Band 6.0)

The provided plans illustrate the outline of a Garange park in 1920 and today.

Overall, it is evident that park has undegone a substantial redevelopment, transforming it into more modernized well-faciltied public park, with few additional replacemnts. Some of the most striking changes includes construction of a new garden and amphitheatre.

In 1920, the park consists two entrance arnold avenue and eldon street. The park also consists of a stage for musicians and a fountain in the centre. Arnold avenue corner consists of two rose gardens separated by a entrance gate and a pond for water plants in the left corner. Eldon street consists of rose gardens along with seats and glasshouse in the right corner.

Today, Stage has been removed and the amphitheatre has been constructed for concerts. Fountain has been removed and a rectangular shaped rose garden has been made along with seats arrangement. Glass house has been rmoved and water frature has been introduced. Today the park also supports underground car parking. The cafe and childrens play areas are constructed in the left corner of the arnold avenue entrance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You provide a clear overview that the park was substantially redeveloped, and you identify several important changes, including the central fountain becoming a rose garden and the musicians’ stage being replaced by an amphitheatre. Most locations are broadly reported accurately. However, some details are unclear or incomplete: the 1920 description says there were “two rose gardens” near Arnold Avenue, although the plan shows one in the north-west and another along the northern edge east of the entrance, as well as a pond in the north-east. The present-day café and play area are also described as being in the “left corner,” which does not match their positions on the northern edge and in the north-east. More precise comparisons of what remained, such as the north-west rose garden and the entrances, would make the account more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the original and current layouts. This gives the reader a coherent overall account, and the sequence from 1920 to today is easy to follow. Some linking and referencing, however, are mechanical or unclear. For example, “The park also consists” is repeated, while “Arnold avenue corner” and “Eldon street consists” do not clearly identify the areas being described. The final paragraph lists several changes without consistently linking each new feature to its former location. Use clearer spatial transitions such as “in the north-east” and “in contrast,” and group changes by area to strengthen progression and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing a park plan, including “fountain,” “amphitheatre,” “rectangular shaped rose garden,” and “underground car parking.” These choices show an adequate range for the task, but inaccurate spelling and awkward collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the description less precise. Examples include “Garange,” “faciltied,” “replacemnts,” “rmoved,” and “frature.” Phrases such as “supports underground car parking” and “seats arrangement” are also unnatural in this context. Aim for accurate, conventional map-description language, and check spelling carefully. More precise location vocabulary would also help distinguish features in the north-west, north-east, and south-east.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more developed sentences, including the overview sentence beginning “Overall” and the contrast between the former stage and the new amphitheatre. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors occur in basic sentence patterns as well as longer constructions. For example, “the park consists two entrance” needs a suitable verb pattern and plural form, while “Some of the most striking changes includes” has subject–verb disagreement. Articles are also often missing, as in “Fountain has been removed,” and tense shifts occur between “the park consists” and “has been removed.” Practise accurate past-tense descriptions of the 1920 plan and present-tense descriptions of today, while checking articles, plurals, and agreement.
