Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You provide a relevant overview of substantial change and identify several important replacements, including the central fountain becoming a rose garden and the musicians’ stage giving way to an amphitheatre. You also note that the north-west rose garden remains. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the pond was in the north-east, not the south-east, and it became a children’s play area; the café replaced a northern rose garden, not the southern one. The statement that there were five seats before and four today is also misleading, as the plans show several seating areas in both periods. The underground car park entrance is mentioned, but its location and relationship to the park could be described more precisely. More accurate comparisons would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and phrases such as “Overall” and “The fountain” help signal the focus of each section. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is uneven. The third paragraph moves from the north-west to the south and then to the north-east, while the final paragraph shifts between the centre, west, and south-east without a clear spatial pattern. Some links are also awkward, as in “The pond… is changed with…” A clearer sequence—such as describing the northern area, then the centre and west, then the southern area—would make the comparisons easier to follow. Paragraphing is useful, but connections between ideas need more control.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing maps, including “rose garden,” “fountain,” “amphitheatre,” “replacing,” and “remains,” so the main changes can generally be understood. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “water feature” and “underground park.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “additional new several facilities,” “new buildings structures,” and “water flows from its top” do not express the intended features clearly. “Underground park” should refer to an underground car park, and “changed with” is not the appropriate expression for a replacement. Aim for precise map vocabulary and avoid adding descriptions not shown in the plans. More accurate collocations would make your comparisons clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, including a contrast with “but” and a relative clause in “The fountain which is in middle of park…”. The main message is usually recoverable, but errors in agreement, articles, tense, and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “The maps presents” should use a plural verb, while “when it new opened” needs a correctly formed clause such as “when it first opened.” Articles are missing in “in middle of park,” and the sentence beginning “New attractions of water flows…” is difficult to parse. Punctuation spacing is also inconsistent, particularly after commas and full stops. Practise accurate past and present forms and build clearer sentences around one comparison at a time.
