Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify several important changes, including the replacement of the musicians’ stage by an amphitheatre, the pond by a children’s play area, and the glasshouse by a water feature. You also note the new underground car-park entrance and the central seating arrangement. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the park has two rose gardens today, but the north-west garden remains and the northern garden is replaced by a café; the central rose garden is new, rather than simply a reduction in the number of gardens. The description of the 1920 layout also misplaces the gardens in relation to the pond and stage. A clearer overview of the main transformation, followed by more precise location comparisons, would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to descriptions of the earlier and current layouts. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “Moreover” help signal shifts between points. However, progression is sometimes difficult to follow because several locations and changes are combined in long sentences, particularly the paragraph beginning “On the other hand.” The reference to “the side of pond” does not clearly identify which feature is meant, and “the entrance remained same” is also imprecise. Organise the details by area—for example, north, centre, and south—and use clear references to the features being compared. This would make the overall arrangement easier to follow and reduce reliance on general connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “replaced,” “surrounding,” “entrance,” and “constructed,” and you attempt to describe changes rather than merely list labels. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “saturated seats area,” “entrance for underground park,” and “is available now.” Spelling errors—including “annugrated,” “ampitheatre,” and “avilabe”—also make the writing less clear and reduce precision. Aim to use standard terms for map descriptions, such as “seating area,” “underground car-park entrance,” and “is now located.” More accurate spelling and natural collocations would help communicate the layout reliably.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons with “instead of” and clauses describing where features have been built. However, errors in agreement, articles, tense, and sentence boundaries are frequent enough to make some relationships unclear. For example, “several changes has been made” should use a plural verb, while “grange park were three rose garden” needs a clearer construction such as “there were three rose gardens in Grange Park.” The sentence beginning “On the other hand” also joins several changes without clear grammatical links. Practise accurate past and present forms when comparing the two plans, and check plural nouns and articles. Breaking long sentences into shorter, controlled comparisons will improve clarity.
