Student answer (Band 5.5)

The map illustrates the public park in past and in present days.

Overall, currently few changes were replace with previous year, in past year there were more seats and rose gardens but in present year there are two rose garden only and also children play area.

In this paragraph, entrance were same for the past and also for the current days but on the east side of the map there were rose garden and pond for water plants but in present there is cafe and children play areas. Futhermore, fountain was replaced with rose garden with more sitting arrangements in these days. In addition, on the left side of fountain there was a stage for the musicians but currently there is amphitheatre for concerts.

On the other hand, there is also a water feature on the right side of the rose garden in present days and also entrance is on the south eastern corner and there is also a underground parking, Therefore, in past year there was a green house with seats on the right side.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main transformation from the 1920 layout to today, including the central fountain becoming a rose garden, the western stage area becoming an amphitheatre, and the pond and glasshouse being replaced by a play area and water feature. The overview also notes changes to seating and rose gardens, although “few changes” is unclear because several facilities have been replaced. Some details are inaccurate or imprecise: the park has three rose gardens in 1920 and two today, but the response does not clearly locate the rose garden that remains in the north-west. The underground car-park entrance is at the south-east corner, not simply an entrance there. Develop the overview and describe the key locations more precisely to make the comparison fuller.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, an overview and two body paragraphs, and it generally moves from the northern and central features to the southern area. However, progression within paragraphs is not always clear: the second paragraph begins with entrances, shifts to eastern features, then moves to the centre and west. “On the other hand” does not express a clear contrast in the final paragraph, while “also” and “in addition” are repeated. Some references, such as “on the right side,” depend on the reader inferring the map’s orientation. Grouping changes by area or by old-to-new replacements, and using more precise linking and referencing, would make the organisation easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant map vocabulary, including “fountain,” “rose garden,” “pond for water plants,” “amphitheatre” and “underground parking,” so the reader can identify most features. There are also attempts at descriptive phrasing such as “sitting arrangements.” However, several expressions are unnatural or imprecise: “in past and in present days,” “few changes were replace,” and “green house” do not communicate the intended meaning smoothly. “Entrance” is repeated where “entrance to the underground car park” would be more specific. Check spelling and word forms, including “Furthermore,” and choose standard collocations for describing changes and locations. A more precise range would help distinguish features and replacements.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, using structures such as “but,” “where,” and “there were.” The main comparisons are usually understandable, but errors in agreement, tense, articles and sentence construction recur. For example, “entrance were same” needs a plural subject and a suitable article, while “few changes were replace” has an incorrect verb form. “There is also a water feature … and also entrance is” combines clauses awkwardly and omits an article. The response also shifts between past and present inconsistently when describing the two plans. Practise accurate comparison patterns, such as “The fountain was replaced by…” and “There were entrances on both sides,” while retaining some varied sentence structures.
