Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given plans display a public park in1920, when it was first opened and the same park today.
Overall, it can be seen that the difference between both plan are significantly noticeable. Today's plan have more modern facilities than the facilities they had in 1920.
At first, if we look at the old plan which was from the year 1920 , the year this park first opend. The park's entrance was in both Arnold avnue and eldon street side. Left side of both entrance there was rose garden. The rose garden was surrounded by seates. There was a fountain in the middle of the park and beside that there was a stage for musicians. At the uper right corner of the map we can see that there was a pond for water plants. There was a rose garden on the leftside of the pond and seats were on the right side. Between the seats and entrance of Eldon street there was a glasshouse.
Now, if we focus on today's plan we can see that the entrance of both Arnold Avenue and Eldon Street didnt change. In the middle of the plan the fountain get replaced by the rose garden and the seates are arrange around it. In the place where was the stage for musicians get replaced by the Amphitheatre for concerts. Rose garden on the left of the Arold avenue entrance in in the same place till now. An underground car parking is instoled in the right side of the map. Besid eit there is a water feature now. A children play area and cafe is installed in up in the right cornar of the map.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both plans and identify several important changes, including the central fountain becoming a rose garden, the musicians’ stage being replaced by an amphitheatre, and new facilities in the eastern part of the park. The overview also recognises that the present-day park has more modern facilities. These details support a clear response to the task. However, some locations are unclear or inaccurate: the 1920 rose garden beside the pond was north of it, not simply “on the left,” and the present-day café and play area are not both in the north-east corner. The overview could also summarise the broader pattern of change more precisely, such as the replacement of several original features while the entrances and north-west rose garden remain. This would make the comparison more complete and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a sensible overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph about the 1920 plan, and a paragraph about the present-day layout. This makes the two time periods easy to follow, and phrases such as “Now, if we focus on today’s plan” signal the shift clearly. At times, however, the progression is more like a list of individual features than a grouped comparison. Repeated openings such as “There was” and “we can see” make the description somewhat mechanical, while “Beside it” has an unclear reference. Grouping changes by area—for example, the western facilities and then the eastern facilities—and using clearer links such as “whereas” or “in contrast” would improve flow and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a park plan, including “fountain,” “rose garden,” “pond for water plants,” and “Amphitheatre for concerts.” This gives you enough range to communicate the main features, and some location language helps distinguish areas of the park. However, several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural expressions reduce accuracy, including “opend,” “seates,” “instoled,” and “in up in the right cornar.” Phrases such as “the difference between both plan are significantly noticeable” are also awkward, and “underground car parking” does not match the map label as naturally as “underground car park.” Aim for accurate spelling and standard map-description collocations, and avoid conversational wording such as “if we focus on.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make the description less controlled. For example, “Today's plan have” should be “Today’s plan has,” and “the fountain get replaced” needs a past form such as “was replaced.” The sentence “In the place where was the stage for musicians get replaced” is difficult to follow because its clause structure is faulty. There are also problems with plurals and articles, as in “both plan” and “a rose garden.” Practise forming clear passive sentences for changes and checking subject–verb agreement; these would help you express the map comparisons more accurately.
