Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important changes, including the replacement of the pond by a children’s play area, the musicians’ stage by a concert amphitheatre, and the glasshouse by a water feature. You also note that the central fountain was replaced by a rose garden. However, the overview is unclear and includes an inaccurate claim: the entrance did not move, but it is not a rose garden that remained beside it. The park has two rose gardens today, but the north-west garden remains and the central garden is new; the northern garden was replaced by a café and the south-west garden by the amphitheatre. Develop a clearer summary of what stayed the same and the main transformations, and describe locations more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence, with an opening, an attempted overview, and paragraphs introduced by “firstly” and “secondly.” These markers give the reader some sense of organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview is confusing and several changes are grouped together without a clear spatial or comparative order. For example, the first paragraph moves from the entrance to rose gardens, seating, the fountain, and the pond. Some links, such as “nowadays” and “which,” do not make the relationships between features clear. Organise the report into a concise overview followed by comparisons of the northern, central, and western/southern areas, using clear references to the 1920 plan and the present-day plan.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing maps, including “replaced,” “fountain,” “amphitheatre,” “café,” and “water features.” This gives you a basic range for reporting changes. However, word choice and spelling errors are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less clear. Phrases such as “the changing in features,” “recent variation,” and “they are increase seating area by two times” are not natural or precise for this task. There are also inconsistent forms, including “situaded” and “water features” where the plan labels a single water feature. Aim for accurate map vocabulary and standard collocations, such as “was converted into” or “was replaced by,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and some relationships between past and present are expressed through forms such as “were replaced” and “changes into.” However, many sentences contain errors in tense, agreement, articles, and sentence construction, which can make the comparisons hard to understand. For example, “the place of the rose garden remained same” lacks an article and has an unclear structure, while “they are increase seating area” has an incorrect verb form. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly after sentence openings such as “All in all” and “firstly.” Practise forming accurate past and present passive sentences, for example, “The pond was replaced by a play area,” and separate each comparison into a complete sentence.
