Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies the broad change from the 1920 park to its present-day form and mentions several relevant features, including the central fountain being replaced by a rose garden and the addition of an amphitheatre. However, it addresses the task only minimally: most major changes are omitted, such as the café, children’s play area, water feature, and underground car-park entrance, and there is little comparison of locations. The overview that the park has been “totally changed” is too general to summarise the main developments. The response is also 90 words, below the required 150, which leaves the description substantially incomplete. To improve, give a concise overview and describe the key changes across the park’s northern, central, western, and southern areas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an opening, an overview beginning “Overall,” and a final paragraph introduced by “To begin with.” However, the ideas do not develop in a clear sequence: the central rose garden and amphitheatre are mentioned in the overview, then the final paragraph repeats the stage and fountain without adding detail. The last sentence is unfinished, so the response has no complete ending. Connections between the map features are also limited, making it difficult to follow a systematic comparison of the two plans. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and for grouped changes, and organise details by location or by features that were replaced and added.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fountain,” “Rose garden,” “Stage for Musicians,” and “Amphitheatre for concerts,” so the reader can identify several features. However, the range is limited and some word choices or spellings make the description less clear, such as “general park” and “identical park” for the same park, and “interetsting information” where a direct description would be more suitable. There are also repeated forms such as “park” and “changed,” with little vocabulary for comparing locations or describing replacements. Aim for precise map language, for example “the park,” “the same park,” “was replaced by,” and “is now located in the western section.” Check spelling carefully, especially for labels copied from the plan.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few sentence forms, including an overview introduced by “Overall” and a passive construction in “A fountain is replaced by Rose garden.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent. The opening has subject–verb disagreement (“The map illustrate”), and the phrase “when it first opened and the identical park curently” is not a complete, well-formed comparison. Articles are missing in phrases such as “had stage” and “by Rose garden,” while the final sentence lacks punctuation and remains incomplete. Tense use also needs attention when comparing the historical plan with the present (“was replaced” versus “is now”). Practise complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, accurate articles, and consistent past and present forms.
