Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important changes, including the conversion of the pond into a children’s play area, the glasshouse into a water feature, and the western facilities into an amphitheatre. You also note that the entrances remain. However, the overview is unclear and does not summarise the main pattern of change accurately: for example, it says a rose garden was added, although the central fountain became a rose garden and the north-west garden remained. Some locations are misreported: the fountain was in the centre, not near the Eldon Street entrance, and the musicians’ stage was west of it, not in the middle. The response therefore covers the task only partly; a clearer overview and more accurate comparisons would strengthen it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an opening, an overview and a paragraph describing changes. It also uses some linking expressions, such as “Overall,” “Moreover” and “In addition.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview repeats details without establishing the main changes, and the body moves between locations without a consistent route through the park. References such as “itself” and “these major changes” are not always clear, while “Second change” does not create a clear sequence. Organise the body by area or by matching each 1920 feature with its present-day replacement, and use linking phrases only where they clarify the comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “rose garden,” “pond,” “fountain,” “glasshouse” and “water feature,” so the reader can recognise many of the map features. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “replaced” and “major changes.” However, word choice and spelling errors are noticeable and sometimes make the description less clear: “conc ers” appears to mean “concerts,” “enterance” is misspelled, and “entrance park” does not accurately express an underground car park entrance. Phrases such as “changes are held” and “built first time” are also unnatural. Build a more reliable set of map-description collocations and check spelling, especially for labels copied from the plan.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including comparisons with “while” and “in addition to,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in tense, agreement and sentence construction occur frequently, as in “the grange park looks like in 1920 when they built first time,” “there are two enterance which is still have,” and “A fountain that were built.” These forms make some relationships between past and present difficult to interpret. Articles and prepositions also need attention, as in “a underground entrance” and “near to arnold avenue.” Use past simple for the 1920 plan and present simple for today, and practise accurate comparison patterns such as “The pond was replaced by a play area.”
