Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the topic and gives a broad comparison, noting that the park has developed since 1920. It also begins to report a relevant feature by mentioning the central fountain. However, the account stops mid-sentence at “There were two,” so it does not describe the main changes shown in the plans or provide a complete overview of how the park is arranged today. The task requires a summary of the key features and comparisons, but these are only minimally addressed here. The response is also 80 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to select and explain the important changes. To improve, complete the response and compare the central garden, western concert area, and changes in the north-east and south-east corners.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overall statement and then a description of the first plan. Phrases such as “Overall” and “In the first plan” help signal these stages. However, the progression is very limited because the response ends abruptly with “There were two,” and there is no completed comparison or description of the present-day plan. The overview sentence also combines several ideas in a way that makes the relationship between them unclear. Develop separate paragraphs for the overview and the main changes, and use clear links such as “By contrast” or “Today” to guide the reader through the comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some appropriate vocabulary for describing a map, including “plans,” “fountain,” “centre,” and “developments.” This shows a basic ability to communicate the topic, and “showcase a comparison” is an attempt to use a more formal expression. However, the range is limited, partly because the response is incomplete, and some choices are awkward or imprecise. “Not alot of things to do” is informal and does not clearly describe the park’s facilities, while “remarkable developments for many individuals” is vague and does not identify what changed. Use precise map vocabulary such as “facilities,” “was replaced by,” and “is located in the north-east corner,” and name the features being compared.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes a mixture of simple statements and a more complex overview clause, as in “Overall, it can be observed at a glance that…”. The opening also attempts to use a relative clause in “which was firstly open in 1920.” However, control is uneven: “now, has seen several remarkable developments” lacks a clear subject, and “There were two” is an incomplete sentence. The sentence boundary in “centre. There” also needs a space after the full stop. These issues make parts of the response difficult to follow, although the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Aim for complete sentences with an explicit subject, and check punctuation and verb forms when revising.
