Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response makes a limited attempt to discuss the topic, but it does not clearly explain either view in the question: whether students should study additional subjects or devote their time to their qualification. Instead, it shifts mainly to English learning, teaching quality, and government support, so much of the content is tangential. The opening refers vaguely to “other subjects,” but the reasons that follow are difficult to connect to the task, and no clear opinion is given. The conclusion about “poor the tutor” and student disagreement also does not resolve the question. To improve, address both stated views directly, explain why each may be valuable, and give a clear personal position supported by a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is an attempt to organise the response into paragraphs and to use signposting such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because the paragraphs do not develop a consistent line of argument: the response moves from additional subjects to English skills, then to school support, without showing how these points relate to the essay question. Several sentences are also incomplete or unclear, such as “For example other university and collage and schools the main subject in focus.” This makes connections between ideas hard to identify. A clearer structure would present one view in each body paragraph, use topic sentences, and link each example explicitly to the point being made.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some topic-related vocabulary, including “qualification,” “guidance and support,” and “responsible decisions,” and it attempts to discuss education and skills. However, the range is repetitive and often imprecise, with frequent spelling and word-form errors such as “dircet,” “chioce,” “voculbery,” and “writting.” Phrases including “extra time in focus important subject” and “influence in their situation different way” do not express the intended meaning naturally. These choices sometimes make the argument difficult to understand. Build a more accurate set of phrases for discussing the two views, such as “broaden their knowledge,” “concentrate on their degree,” and “develop transferable skills,” and check spelling and collocations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts some longer structures, including “The important point is that learning in english can have both positive and negative effect,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns and many are grammatically incomplete or inaccurately formed. Examples include “The main reasons is,” “It mainly depend,” and “All students the focus in four skills,” which show problems with subject–verb agreement and sentence construction. Articles, plurals, and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “both positive and negative effect” and the spacing before commas and full stops. These errors frequently obscure relationships between ideas. Practise building complete subject–verb sentences first, then combine them with accurate clauses using “because,” “while,” and “although.”
