Student answer (Band 5.0)

Yes, some students want to learn other subjects in addition to their main subject but some other students think it is more important to give all their time to studying for a qualification. I think both are correct everyone have their own point of views but here i'm gonne give my opinion.

Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects because they want to get exposure of other fields and they wanna get knowledge of other subjects but i think they should learn about other subjects only when if they have free time they should always prioritize their main subjects they shouldn't ignore their main subjects or if they have free time they can learn other subjects by learning other subjects they will become more inteligent because in this way they will have more knowledge of the world and their mind would have more ideas for example one of my friend really likes to learn about other subjects and he is one of the most intelligent person in our group he have the solution of all problems in every difficulty i always talk to him to get any solution for this problem.

Some students think it is more important to give all the time to studying for a qualification i think they are also right because in my point of view we should always prioritize our own subjects if we give all time to our studies we will perform well in exams and we will get good marks in exams. for example one of my friend get good marks in exams we asked him that the exams were very hard how you got good marks? he rsaid i gave my all the time for the preparation of the exams and that's why i got good marks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state a preference for prioritising the main subject while allowing students to explore other fields in their free time. The examples about friends’ academic performance and broad knowledge are relevant, and the response stays on topic. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the benefits of learning other subjects are asserted rather than explained in detail, and the second view focuses mainly on getting good exam marks, without considering other reasons for concentrating on a qualification. Your opening says both views are correct, but your own position could be clearer and more consistent. Develop each side with a specific explanation and make your final opinion explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and examples that relate to the points. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and several ideas are joined into very long sentences, making the relationships between them difficult to follow. For instance, the first body paragraph moves from exposure to other fields, to prioritising main subjects, to a friend’s intelligence without clear transitions. Linking phrases such as “for example” are used, but connections are repetitive and sometimes mechanical. Use clearer topic sentences, divide long sentences, and show how each example supports the point before moving to the next idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “subjects,” “qualification,” “prioritize,” “knowledge,” and “exams.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “other subjects,” “all the time,” and “good marks.” Some choices are informal or imprecise for an academic essay, such as “wanna,” “get exposure of,” and “the solution of all problems.” Spelling errors, including “inteligent,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise academic collocations and vary repeated expressions; for example, describe students as gaining “insight into other disciplines” and say that a friend “can solve a wide range of problems.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to express reasons and conditions using clauses such as “because they want to…” and “if they have free time,” but sentence structures are mostly simple or joined into long, faulty sentences. Errors in agreement and verb forms occur frequently: “everyone have,” “he have,” and “one of my friend get” should use singular agreement and appropriate verb forms. There are also problems with sentence boundaries and punctuation, particularly where separate ideas run together, as in the opening paragraph. These errors sometimes make the reader work to identify the intended relationships. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then build controlled complex sentences with clear punctuation and consistent subject–verb agreement.
