The issue subjects has attracted significant attention in recent years and remains a widely debated topic across the world. People hold different opinions regarding its impact and importance. This essay will examine the key aspects of this issue before presenting a well-reasoned conclusion.
There are several compelling reasons why subjects is considered beneficial or important. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to address the specific prompt regarding university students and their choice between focusing on a main subject or exploring others. Instead, the essay uses a generic template that discusses 'subjects' in a vague, abstract way, likely due to a misunderstanding of the topic or a pre-memorized response. Because the content is not relevant to the specific question asked, it does not develop the required arguments. Additionally, the response is under the 250-word minimum, which further limits the development of ideas. To improve, you must ensure your response directly answers the specific question provided in the prompt rather than using a generic essay structure.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs with a logical structure (introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion). Cohesive devices such as 'In addition,' 'As a result,' and 'Despite these advantages' are used to link sentences and ideas. However, because the content itself is not relevant to the prompt, the logical progression feels disconnected from the actual task. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the flow of the text is smooth, but the lack of topical relevance significantly impacts the overall coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally accurate and appropriate for an academic context, with phrases like 'compelling reasons,' 'significant attention,' and 'responsible decision-making.' However, the word 'subjects' is used repeatedly and inappropriately in contexts where it does not make sense (e.g., 'The issue subjects has attracted...'). This indicates a lack of flexibility and a failure to use vocabulary relevant to the specific topic. While the range is adequate for basic communication, the misuse of key terms limits the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a reasonable level of grammatical accuracy, with few errors in tense or subject-verb agreement. Punctuation is generally handled well. However, the grammatical control is undermined by the repetitive and often nonsensical use of the word 'subjects' as a noun phrase, which creates awkward phrasing. While the sentence construction is competent, the lack of variety in complex structures and the reliance on a rigid template prevent a higher score.
