Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of skill diversification versus the focus on academic excellence. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding stress reduction is a bit repetitive and lacks depth. While the task is addressed, the supporting examples, such as the mention of psychology, are brief and could be more fully extended to reach a higher band. Overall, the response covers all parts of the prompt effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'While, studying extra subjects create a workload'. Additionally, there are some issues with referencing and sentence-level flow, which occasionally make the progression of ideas feel slightly disjointed. Despite these minor issues, the overall structure is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'academic excellence', 'career opportunities', and 'discipline'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'provide a huge learning' and 'gives a stress towards to students'. The range is sufficient for the task, but the lack of precision and occasional misuse of words prevent it from reaching a higher band. More variety and more accurate word combinations would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'studying other subjects is improves', 'major subject require') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several comma splices and run-on sentences. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, the student should focus on basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading for common errors like verb endings and sentence boundaries.
