Student answer (Band 7.0)
There has been a heated debate over whether students should spend more time learning other subjects with the main subjects or they should pay more attention to the qualification, which is beneficial for them in the future. While some people argue that students should pay more attention to additional subjects with the main subjects, others believe that they should spend more time to the qualification because it is more important. This essay will discuss both perspectives and give my personal opinion.
On the one hand, supporters of the importance of learning other subjects argue that it has numerous advantages. Firstly, it enables students to gaining valuable knowledge of the other subjects, which plays a crucial role in academic life. This is because it helps them to understand different perspectives. Furthermore, it allows them to develop different skills because they will learn many skills from other topics, which is extremely essential for the modern world. For example, In Bangladesh, students study their main subjects alongside, they spend some time obtaining practical skills, which helps them to acquire valuable experience. Therefore, learning other subjects has several advantages, which is very important for the students.
On the other hand, proponents of paying extra attention to a qualification believe that it is more flexible and convenient. Additionally, it enables them to secure a high-quality job, which is probably impossible without a strong degree. Moreover, it increases career opportunities in the long run, which is one of the most significant parts of the student's life. This happens because when students try to move to other countries for higher education, universities require certain qualification. Hence, if students spend more attention to a crucial degree, it will be more beneficial for them.
From my perspective, although paying more attention to academic qualification has several advantages, I believe that students should obtain more knowledge and skills to other subjects because it will be more flexible.
In conclusion, the topic of paying more attention to academic qualifications and subjects has become a matter of great concern. Although the university qualification has several benefits, I believe that students should focus to gaining a wide range of knowledge in other subjects because it brings positive outcomes in the long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, though some development is slightly repetitive. For instance, the argument for 'other subjects' relies heavily on the word 'skills' without fully exploring the nature of these subjects. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to provide more specific, nuanced examples rather than general statements about 'academic life' or 'modern world' requirements. The conclusion effectively summarizes the stance, though it could be more distinct from the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is a tendency to repeat phrases like 'which is' or 'it allows them to' at the start of sentences. Improving the variety of cohesive links would enhance the flow and make the progression of ideas feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'proponents' and 'crucial role'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is noticeable repetition of basic words like 'subjects', 'important', and 'attention'. Some collocations are slightly awkward, such as 'spend more attention to' (should be 'pay more attention to') and 'focus to gaining' (should be 'focus on gaining'). Expanding the range of synonyms and improving collocation accuracy would significantly boost the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent minor grammatical errors, such as 'students to gaining' (should be 'students to gain') and 'spend some time obtaining' (which is grammatically fine but follows a clunky structure). Punctuation is generally accurate, but there are occasional slips in preposition usage and verb forms. The student demonstrates a good grasp of basic grammar, but the control over complex structures is not yet consistent enough for a higher band. Focusing on verb patterns and prepositional phrases would be beneficial.
