IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Others believe it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. Discuss both these views and give your opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
I am agree with the first point of view at some extent because we should focus on our studies only. Additional subjects learning can interept your main qualification. But its depend on the person what type of energy he has. If you have enough energy to take other subject as well you must do it. it'll be beneficial for students as they could learn new things as well.
When i was university student i take many extra courses with my main qualification which help me a lot to learning new subjects. But its also depend on how much interest students have to learn in new subjects with their main qualification. If student have enough interest they should must take extra courses that can help to bear pressure as well.
I am also agree with the second point of view in some extent. I already mentioned that its depend on students how much they are interested and have energy to take or absorb extra subjects. If it disturb their main qualification then students should not take extra subjects.
But in these days their is need to learn more things with your main qualification because only main qualification is not enough for getting a job in my country. Students should learn new skills with their main qualification it can be helpful in their practical life as well.
So i agree fifty-fifty with both views. In conclusion, it totally depends on students how much they are interested and energy they have to learn.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments are repetitive, focusing primarily on 'energy' and 'interest' without exploring broader academic or professional implications in depth. The position is clear but lacks the sophisticated extension required for higher bands. The conclusion is brief and does not synthesize the arguments effectively. To improve, you should expand on the benefits of interdisciplinary study versus the necessity of specialization with more concrete examples beyond personal experience.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and a lack of varied cohesive devices. Transitions between ideas are often mechanical or missing, such as the frequent use of 'it depends on' to start sentences. While the overall structure is clear, the flow between the two viewpoints is somewhat disjointed. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and the essay would benefit from a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'conversely', 'consequently') to connect ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'main qualification' and 'extra subjects' are used repeatedly, indicating a limited range. There are some errors in word choice, such as 'interept' (likely meant 'interrupt') and 'fifty-fifty', which is too informal for an academic essay. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and synonyms to avoid repetition and demonstrate a better command of collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('I am agree', 'its depend'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms ('I take many extra courses' instead of 'I took'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of apostrophes in contractions. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of basic errors and the lack of complex sentence structures limit the score. Focusing on correct tense usage and sentence variety is essential.
