Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. I think it is depend on our interest like subjects are only give us theory knowledge but other subjects such as painting it release stress and give peace.

To commence with, some university offers additional subjects to shoot up their knowledge and release stress. To clear it precisely, reason to choose addition subjects along with main subjects is they want to grasp other knowledge that beneficial for their life such as in career. Moreover, painting is a good additional subject for studying it gives a peace and calmness from stressful life. For example, physical education is taught by different university as a additional subject it gives information about how people can maintain their physical and mental health.

In contrast, other believe that it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification but it feels burden of study like qualification is important but other skills that help in future is main. Furthermore, some students are busy on their studies they are not interested in any activity after some time they feel anxiety and face depression. For instance, one of my friends face problem such as depression due to only doing studies rather than focus on other additional subject such as painting and music because it helps us calm and give peace.

I think only focuses on study is not good way of studies, students give their time to their passion and skills. Studying is also important but we have to maintain a balance in study and other things that reduce tension and makes our mind free.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that additional subjects help with stress and career prospects, the explanation remains repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the example of physical education is relevant, but the connection to the broader argument could be more analytical. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more sophisticated reasoning rather than repeating the same concepts of 'peace' and 'stress' multiple times. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments need more academic rigor.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'In contrast' to link your thoughts. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To clear it precisely'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence builds logically upon the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic words like 'subjects', 'study', and 'knowledge'. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'shoot up their knowledge' (which is not standard academic English) and 'it feels burden of study'. To improve, you should aim to use more precise, academic vocabulary and avoid repeating the same phrases. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific collocations would significantly enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You make frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('it is depend', 'one of my friends face problem') and incorrect article usage. Some sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, which occasionally makes the meaning difficult to follow. While you attempt to use complex sentences, they often contain errors that impede the flow. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that your verb tenses and subject-verb agreements are consistent will help you achieve a higher score.
