Student answer (Band 6.0)

I entirely believe that most of the university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subject as they show enthusiasm in learning other subjects.

First and foremost, most of the university students spent their entire time learning their main subject as it helps them qualify. They spend only a few hours in learning additional subjects as it helps them to gain extra knowledge irrespective their field. As knowledge is important in every field students tend to spent their time learning additional subjects.

Where as others believe that it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. As studying for qualification only increases knowledge in a particular field but it is essential, to have an idea in every aspect. Most of the students cannot focus on leaning about other subjects as their own subjects are a burden to them.

In my perspective, l would recommend students to learn other subjects and gain knowledge in every field as it is important to survive in the world. Learning additional subjects would help students in increasing their cognitive skills. As per my knowledge I've completed my undergraduate in Engineering and learnt about mechanics as well which helped me to secure a job in this field. Knowledge in additional subject is never a waste as it is helpful in unknown ways. In conclusion students must learn additional subjects apart from studying for a qualification.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding 'burden' is mentioned but not fully explored, and the explanation of why additional subjects are beneficial remains quite general. Furthermore, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the depth of the discussion. To improve, you should expand on your examples and ensure each paragraph provides a more detailed justification for the points raised, ensuring the essay meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Where as', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of linking words is occasionally repetitive or slightly unnatural, such as the use of 'Where as' at the start of a paragraph. Referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring they are used more naturally would help elevate the score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'important', 'knowledge', and 'subjects' repeatedly. While the meaning is always clear, there is little evidence of less common lexical items or sophisticated collocations. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to education and professional development, and avoid repeating the same words in close proximity. Using synonyms and more precise terminology will demonstrate a stronger command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'irrespective their field' (missing 'of'), 'spent their time' (tense inconsistency), and 'leaning' (spelling error for 'learning'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors that occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure consistent verb tenses throughout your arguments. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher band score.
