Student answer (Band 6.5)

Is is generally argued that several university pupils wants to learn extra curricular activities along with their course work. Many others also consensus that it is very crucial to dedicate all their efforts and time to the course work for a qualification. I will discuss both these notions and give my perspective also.

On the one hand, in this competitive world, many students starting working on the other skills also instead of their main course work which is i think becoming necessary. For example, in our country , a fresh graduate never going to get a job just by completing their course work , if he has any smart skill, like any graphic designing or python, etc these are necessary and also very popular nowadays. He easily get a good job . Thus, it is pertinent to say it is becoming very vital to focus on other subjects also for better employment opportunities.

On the other hand, studying only course work is also necessary because some students don't focus on their course work and they become over smart. This also has detrimental effect because they lose interest in studies. Along with skills, course completion is also very important.

From my perspective, it is very important to have both. Students should focus on both curricular and extra-curricular activities. As in this growing world, you must have all the qualities so that to achieve your dreams and goals.

In a nutshell, after considering all the above mentioned arguments we can reach a logical conclusion that it is important to learn both the subjects of your coursework along with other extra curricular activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'detrimental effect' of focusing only on coursework is vague and lacks sufficient explanation or a concrete example. While the position is clear, the supporting points could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The essay remains relevant throughout, but the depth of analysis is consistent with a mid-range performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In a nutshell,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the use of 'these' in the second paragraph without a clear antecedent. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints and the conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'many students starting working' instead of 'starting to work' and 'over smart,' which is not standard academic English. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'extra curricular' and 'pertinent,' the overall range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional errors in word formation that slightly affect the flow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('pupils wants'), tense inconsistencies ('a fresh graduate never going to get'), and missing articles or prepositions. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. The control over complex structures is inconsistent, and punctuation is generally functional but basic.
