Student answer (Band 6.5)
There are different opinions about university students opting extra subjects addition to their main subjects. Some students argue that they want to learn additional courses. While, others argue that it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. In my opinion, students must learn other subjects addition to their main courses as it will definetly help them to build their career and resume well.
Those who do not support opting for additional subjects argue that students might get distracted from their main course and lose their attention. They think it is a waste of time to spend on other subjects rather than their own. They say that students might get confused and have second thoughts about their own qualification. However, this view does not consider why many students want to learn about other subjects in the first place.
I strongly argue that, students must learn about other subjects rather than their own. It helps students understand and gain knowledge in all aspects rather than sticking to one qualification. Moreover, students can even choose streams they want to continue when they learn other subjects. These are the reasons I want students to opt for other subjects as well.
In conclusion, while not learning about other subjects might seem like a wise choice, I believe that learning other subjects might help them gain knowledge and learn new things which might help them to see life in a new perspective. This might change their way of studying as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that learning extra subjects helps with careers and gaining knowledge, these points are not fully extended with concrete examples or detailed explanations. The arguments remain at a general level, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure that each main point is supported by a specific example or a more thorough explanation of the 'why' and 'how' behind your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In conclusion' to link your thoughts. However, the use of these devices is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would help enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'subjects', 'learn', and 'important'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more precise and varied vocabulary, such as 'curriculum', 'interdisciplinary', 'academic pursuits', or 'professional development'. There are no significant spelling errors, but the lack of sophisticated or less common lexical items keeps the score in the mid-range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'opting extra subjects addition to' (should be 'opting for extra subjects in addition to') and 'definetly' (spelling error). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'resume well'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on refining your use of prepositions and ensuring subject-verb agreement to improve your accuracy.
