Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 130 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the essay introduces both sides of the argument, it lacks a conclusion and fails to provide a clear personal opinion as requested by the prompt. The development of ideas is superficial; for instance, the mention of online platforms like Coursera is a good start, but it is not expanded upon to explain how this relates to the broader debate of balancing main subjects with additional learning. To improve, you must fully develop each paragraph with specific examples and ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed, including a clear stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no clear paragraphing, and the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'so' and 'also'. The logical progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of a concluding paragraph and the incomplete nature of the argument. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect your ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to convey complex ideas. There are several spelling errors, such as 'lead' instead of 'led', 'herd' instead of 'hard', 'naturaly' instead of 'naturally', 'expactation' instead of 'expectations', 'thay' instead of 'they', and 'cource' instead of 'course'. These errors, combined with the limited range of vocabulary, make the writing feel informal and imprecise. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to education and employment, and proofread your work carefully to correct common spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'student expactation... are high'), incorrect word forms (e.g., 'tack additional subject'), and missing articles or prepositions. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. The lack of control over basic grammar, such as pluralization and verb tense, significantly lowers the score. To improve, practice using a mix of simple and complex sentence structures and focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and article usage.
