Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the two views, but the development is weak and repetitive. The position is somewhat clear, but the arguments are not well-supported with relevant examples or logical reasoning. The essay frequently repeats the prompt's wording rather than expanding on the ideas. For instance, the second paragraph merely restates that students should focus on main subjects without providing a convincing rationale. The conclusion is also repetitive and fails to synthesize the arguments effectively. To improve, you should focus on developing distinct, logical points for each side of the argument and provide specific, real-world examples to support your claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas within the paragraphs are disjointed and often circular. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and sometimes inaccurate way, such as the repetitive use of 'Similarly' and 'In other words' which do not always connect the ideas logically. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of the argument. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that subsequent sentences build upon that idea using a variety of linking words and referencing techniques.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on words directly taken from the prompt (e.g., 'subjects', 'attention', 'qualification'). There are several spelling errors, such as 'unviersity', 'socre', 'amrks', 'impottant', 'contrasy', and 'quallified'. These errors, combined with the limited range of vocabulary, make the writing feel basic. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of academic vocabulary and synonyms to express your ideas more precisely. Focus on learning collocations and ensuring that your spelling is accurate, as frequent errors can impede the reader's understanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'other believe'), missing articles, and awkward sentence structures. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty, which can cause difficulty for the reader. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. The majority of the sentences contain errors, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct subject-verb agreement, and proofreading your work to catch simple grammatical slips.
