Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some of the university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects whereas others believe it is more important to give all their time, effort and attention to studying for their main qualification. Although mixing with other subjects give you the knowledge to learn about other qualifications and skills but i believe it is more important to give all your time, effort and attention to studying one major of their choice.

Although not every student has the opportunity to diversify their studies but we can see that it is easier for science students in all aspects to study other subjects as well, for example an accountant has the opportunity to learn different subjects in different area of business, leadership and strategy, as well as doctors have the opportunity too.

I believe that experimenting at lower level is okay, studying multiple subjects in high school gives a student the ability to learn about various types of subject and their sub subjects, such as for medical fields, students can be heart surgeon or a dentist or become a general physician at their choice, but to keep up this need to be decided earlier in high school, experimenting with other subjects in later professional age is not an intelligent move. I suggest student should diversify their subjects in their high school and later choose one major to continue studying.

As it is tougher and more time consuming to learn about different subjects at university age and most importantly it will slowdown the studies and focus on the main qualification.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that science students can diversify, the explanation is vague and lacks concrete examples of how this actually benefits them. The argument regarding high school versus university is relevant, but the transition between these ideas is abrupt. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and provides a more detailed explanation or a specific, real-world example to support your claims. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the use of 'Although' at the start of the second paragraph is not followed by a contrasting clause, which disrupts the logical flow. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or lack clear connections to the previous thought. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') and ensure that each sentence logically follows from the one before it.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'give all your time, effort and attention' and 'opportunity to learn'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'later professional age' and 'sub subjects'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to education and professional development. Using synonyms and more sophisticated word choices will help you express your ideas with greater clarity and impact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'mixing... give you'), pronoun misuse (e.g., 'studying one major of their choice'), and punctuation errors. The sentence 'Although mixing with other subjects give you the knowledge... but i believe...' is grammatically incorrect because it uses both 'Although' and 'but' in the same sentence. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like capitalization and subject-verb agreement.
