IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Others believe it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. Discuss both these views and give your opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many students enrolled in high schools want to learn concepts beyond their major, whereas some students argue that it is more instrumental to fully focus on your relevent courses im which you will get the degree. In my opinion scope of study should never be limited to any of the course content or degree due to numerous reasons, which we will discuss in this essay.
First of all, the individuals, who are in support of importance of just focusing on one's specific qualification, they give the reaoson that it will help them to master in their field, that will ultimately benafit them later in their jobs. Undoubtedly, It is true that, giving all of your time and efforts to your scope of study will provide you stronger grip on that area of course but I believe, studying and learning other subjects along with your major will allow you to acquire broad range of knowledge and significantly increase your intellactual level and chances to succeed in life.
For instance, if a student of mechanical engineering major is involved in understanding the concepts of any other desciplines i.e., entrepreneurship, it will not just boost his comands in his first field but he can solve complex problems, and market his engineering products more effectively by integrating the knowledge of both courses.
In addition to it, this is against moral principles to limit someone in terms of knowledge. There is a famous saying "Jack of all trades, master of none but often better than the master of one", which completly supports my opinion on this topic. Moreover if we try to limit someone in studies by restricting them to some specific field, will result in degradation of their capabilities.
To conclude, in my opinion, everyone should be allow to study as many subjects as they want, even beyond what qualification they are pursuing untill of unless their main degree or scope of study is not compromised. This will help us to promote knowledge not degree, which should remain the primary obective of education.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the example of a mechanical engineer learning entrepreneurship to solve complex problems. However, the development of the second body paragraph is slightly less robust, relying on a quote rather than further analytical expansion. The position is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that every point is supported by deeper explanation rather than just stating the idea, as some arguments feel slightly generalized.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First of all', 'For instance', and 'In addition to it', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and sentence flow. For example, the phrase 'untill of unless' in the conclusion is confusing and disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, which helps the overall structure remain clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'instrumental', 'degradation', and 'intellectual'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'relevent', 'im', 'reaoson', 'benafit', 'desciplines', and 'obective'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and refining word choice for better precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the student attempts complex sentences, there are persistent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'the individuals, who are in support of importance of just focusing' and 'everyone should be allow to study'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas appearing in several places. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the accuracy of complex structures will be key to moving up the band scale.
