IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Others believe it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. Discuss both these views and give your opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many students enrolled in universities want to learn concepts beyond their major, whereas some students argue that it is more instrumental to fully focus on your relevant courses in which you are suppose to get the degree. In my opinion, the scope of study should never be limited to any of the course content or degree due to numerous reasons, which we will discuss in this essay.
First of all, the individuals, who are in support of importance of just focusing on one's specific qualification, they give the reaoson that it will help them to master in their field, that will ultimately benefit them later in their jobs. Undoubtedly, It is true that, giving all of your time and efforts to your scope of study will provide you stronger grip on that area of course but I believe, studying and learning other subjects along with your major will allow you to acquire a broad range of knowledge and significantly increase your intellactual level and chances to succeed in life.
For instance, if a student of mechanical engineering major is involved in understanding the concepts of any other disciplines i.e., entrepreneurship, it will not just boost his commands of his first field but unable him to solve more complex problems than his peers, and market his engineering products more effectively by integrating the knowledge of both courses.
In addition to it, this is against the moral principles to limit someone in terms of knowledge. There is a famous saying "Jack of all trades, master of none but often better than the master of one", which means a university student, who try to get knowledge of ther subjects always has a benficial edge. On the contrary, if we try to limit someone in studies by restricting them to some specific field, will result in degradation of their capabilities.
To conclude, in my opinion, everyone should be allow to study as many subjects as they want, even beyond what qualification they are pursuing untill of unless their main degree or scope of study is not compromised. This will help us to promote knowledge not degree, which should remain the primary obective of education.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of interdisciplinary knowledge for problem-solving and the moral argument for academic freedom. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The example regarding mechanical engineering is a good start, but the explanation of how it 'enables' the student could be more precise. The conclusion is clear, though the phrase 'untill of unless' is confusing. Overall, the response covers all parts of the prompt well, though some arguments could be extended with more depth to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'First of all', 'For instance', and 'In addition to it'. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the sentence structure in the second paragraph is a bit clunky, which slightly affects the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints and the conclusion. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the opposing view to the author's perspective and supporting examples.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. There are attempts to use less common items like 'instrumental', 'degradation', and 'interdisciplinary' (implied). However, there are several spelling errors ('reaoson', 'intellactual', 'ther', 'benficial', 'obective') and some awkward collocations ('master in their field' instead of 'master their field', 'boost his commands' instead of 'boost his command'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision and careful proofreading to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('everyone should be allow', 'student... who try') and awkward phrasing ('unable him to solve' instead of 'enable him'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some unnecessary commas. While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these minor errors prevents the essay from reaching the 7.0 band for grammar, as the control over complex structures is not yet consistent enough.
