Student answer (Band 6.0)
There has been a growing debate about whether university students want to learn other additional subjects along with main subjects, while others argue that students should pay full attention to their main subjects. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why i believe that students should learn other useful subjects with their main subjects.
Firstly, supporters of the first view believe that students should learn additional subjects with their main subjects because it helps to learn a lot of useful skills. To elaborate that, by learning other subjects, students can gain knowledge about different subjects. They are more likely to develop practical skills. For instance, if a student learn subject related to cooking, he is able to develop skills in cooking. Therefore, this helps to make students independent in their future.
However, by paying full attention to academic subjects, students can able to build a better future. To explain it, by completing courses with full dedication, students can achieve higher grades. This allows students to get better jobs in future. For example, by completing courses in commerce stream, students can get jobs in the banking field.
In my opinion, learners must choose additional subjects because it helps to develop useful life skills and also allows to reduce the burden of studies.
In conclusion, Although paying full attention to academic subjects is crucial, i reckon that the pupils must choose additional subjects because it helps to gain useful life skills as a result of it students become independent in future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The arguments are repetitive, particularly the focus on 'useful skills' and 'independence,' which are mentioned in both the body paragraph and the conclusion without significant expansion. The examples provided, such as 'cooking' or 'banking,' are quite simplistic and do not fully explore the complexities of university-level education or the trade-offs between breadth and depth of study. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced reasoning and more sophisticated examples that demonstrate a deeper understanding of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly,' 'However,' and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the use of these devices is somewhat mechanical, and the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the general idea of learning subjects and the specific example of cooking is abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally repetitive, which makes the text feel a bit simplistic. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that ideas are connected more fluidly would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'useful,' 'subjects,' and 'better,' which are repeated frequently throughout the text. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions. While the meaning is always clear, the lack of variety in word choice makes the essay feel somewhat repetitive. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repeating the same words in close proximity, and aim for more precise terminology related to education and career development.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'if a student learn subject' should be 'if a student learns a subject,' and 'students can able to' is grammatically incorrect (it should be 'students are able to'). There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement throughout the text. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your point, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs will help improve your accuracy.
