IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Others believe it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. Discuss both these views and give your opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Few Students are willing to study and learn additional subjects to their main subjects but rest of the university students thought that they were studying for only getting the degree i believe and agree with that statement that student should learn additional subjects in university
The mojar point i agree because students who were willing to learn additional subjects in universityes were very creative and want to gain more knowladge in the accdemic time period beacause they want to learn and want to study about new subjects they are intrested in help them to become a sucessfull person and a knowladgable person they will manage their cource subjects with the additional subjects they want to learn more and curious about it for example if a 10 year old kid is solving 9 and 10th class maths equations in that age so think that after few years what was the potentiall of that kid he can make his future bright but think that if his parents would not support the child will he able to use his potentiall in the right place
Some students study only for the degree they dont want to gather the knowladge they study only for getting pass and get the degree just it but they have to think again about it change their mindset study for gather knowladge i disagree with that mindset of students those who want getting normal grades
In conclusion i believe that knowladge is everything it make you wise person also the sucessfull person in life but thinking about just getting passed and not work hard or just study for a degree will not make them a wise person

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. The argument regarding the benefits of additional subjects is repetitive and relies on a confusing, irrelevant example about a 10-year-old child solving math equations, which does not clearly support the university context. The second body paragraph is brief and lacks depth, failing to fully explore why some students might prefer to focus solely on their degree. Overall, the ideas are present but lack the necessary academic extension and logical support required for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices; sentences are often strung together without logical connectors (e.g., 'The mojar point i agree because...'). The transition between the two viewpoints is abrupt, and the conclusion does not effectively summarise the main points, instead introducing a new, slightly repetitive thought. The lack of punctuation, particularly the absence of full stops between sentences, makes the text difficult to follow and significantly impacts the flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'subjects', 'study', and 'knowledge'. There are frequent spelling errors such as 'mojar' (major), 'universityes' (universities), 'knowladge' (knowledge), 'accdemic' (academic), 'intrested' (interested), and 'sucessfull' (successful). These errors are noticeable and occasionally impede the reader's understanding. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision, and the student struggles to use collocations correctly, such as 'getting pass' instead of 'passing'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including missing articles, incorrect verb tenses, and subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Few Students are willing... but rest of the university students thought'). The most significant issue is the lack of sentence boundaries; the essay is essentially a series of run-on sentences with very little punctuation. This makes the text difficult to parse. While there is an attempt at complex structures, they are often faulty and unclear. The control of basic grammar is inconsistent, which hinders communication.
