Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument for focusing solely on main subjects is limited to 'upcoming chapters,' which lacks depth. While the prompt is addressed, the supporting points are repetitive and lack specific, concrete examples to illustrate the benefits of either approach. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your reasoning with more detailed explanations or real-world scenarios, ensuring that each paragraph contributes significantly to the overall argument rather than restating the same points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices. While you use transition words like 'on the one hand' and 'moreover,' the flow between sentences is often mechanical. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the paragraphing is basic. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence builds logically upon the previous one. Improving the transition between your introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion will help create a more cohesive and professional structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good decision' and 'significant part,' which are somewhat generic. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'the education becomes' and 'the universities students.' To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to education and professional development. Avoiding repetitive language and using more varied synonyms will help demonstrate a better command of English vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding article usage ('the education,' 'the universities students') and subject-verb agreement ('the student believe'). Sentence structures are mostly simple or compound, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several instances of missing capitalization at the start of sentences. To achieve a higher score, you need to focus on mastering basic grammatical rules and increasing the variety of your sentence structures. Incorporating more complex, error-free sentences will significantly improve your score in this criterion.
