Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument, but the development of ideas is limited and often unclear. For instance, the argument regarding 'businessmen' is vague and lacks logical connection to the prompt. The student's opinion is mentioned in the introduction but remains inconsistent in the conclusion, where the final stance is confusingly phrased. The ideas are repetitive and lack specific, relevant examples, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-explained idea supported by a clear, logical example.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'There are two main reasons' or 'Because of which'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making the flow between sentences feel disjointed. While there is an attempt at logical progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the occasional misuse of transition signals hinder the overall coherence of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple words like 'good' or 'subjects'. There are several instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'make a businessmen' or 'attention their part time job', which impede clarity. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the student struggles to express complex ideas precisely. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations and synonyms to avoid repeating the same words throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'universities students has become'), sentence fragments, and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'they will be earn', 'they will be get'). While there is an attempt to use complex structures, these are often faulty and contain errors. The control of basic grammar is inconsistent, and punctuation is sometimes neglected. A focus on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors is essential.
